Charters Towers combined agents yarded a total of 2421 cattle on Wednesday. The prime cattle consisted of 482 bullocks, 341 heifers, 1426 cows and 172 bulls.
Prime cattle consisted of some good pens of bullocks and steers with prime heifers and prime cows dominating the yarding.
Competition was strong across all lines with seven processors and two exporters competing on all types.
The yarding was drawn from Burketown, Croydon, Innisfail, Georgetown, Einasleigh, Mt Garnet, Greenvale, Collinsville, Julia Creek, Malanda, coastal and local areas.
Bullocks were quoted 25-30c dearer, heifers were 25- 35c dearer, cows were 5-10c dearer and bulls were 20-25c dearer on last sale's rates.
Steers and bullocks under 500kg sold to 363c and averaged 296c, and those over 500kg topped at 367c to average 315c. Heifers under 440kg sold to 325c and averaged 273c, while heifers over 440kg topped at 300c, averaging 287c. Cows under 400kg made 249c and averaged 217c, while cows over 400kg reached 272c, averaging 254c. Bulls under 450kg made 320c and averaged 275c, while bulls over 450kg reached 369c to average 326c.
Bullocks topped at 367c, sold on a/c Ann Harron, Lochlea Station, Greenvale, that weighed 630kg to return $2313/hd . Best priced trade heifers were presented on a/c AR and CM French, Gilberton Station, Einasleigh, that sold for 325c and weighed 353kg to return $1147/hd.
The top pen of cows were sold by R Stoddard, Cotilda Station, Croydon, for 272.2c, weighing 500kg to return $1361/hd . 13 Santa/Red Brahman cross cows sold on a/c the Jack family, Fernlea Farming, Brandon, made 270c to weigh 542kg and return $1464/hd.
Bulls sold on a/c HM Furber, Narrawa, Einasleigh, topped at 369.2c and weighed 590kg to return $2178/hd.
