STABLES have inundated Racing Queensland with acceptances for the Paul and David Winter Newmarket Handicap to be run on March 7 in Dalby.
Twenty-three horses were originally nominated for the $25,000, 1200 metres dash, representing some of the best stables on the Downs.
That list was trimmed to 16, six of which have been named as emergencies and require scratchings to obtain a starting place, at acceptance time earlier today
Only Mark Currie (Simply Splashing and Mr Markou), and David Reynolds (He's A Moral and Music Scene) have more than a single entry.
The highest rated entrant is the Tony Pascoe-trained Mishani El Lobo (Commands-My Cara Mia-King's Best). With more than $345,000 in the bank from his nine wins and 10 minor placings, Mishani El Lobo has a rating of 89 and has topweight of 61.5kg.
Kevin Kemp's Tisani Magic (Raheeb-Clear Run) is the next highest rated on 82 (58kg), marginally better than Kievann (81.5, 57.5kgs) and Scrabble (Nom Du Jeu-Tibouchina), which is in splendid form. Tisani Magic logged Texas and Inverell wins at successive runs on December 7 and January 1 before consecutive seconds on January 11 and February 22 at Warwick and Roma, respectively.
The Dalby card will also feature the $19,000 Wild River Concrete Lightning (800m) for which 12 acceptors, including two emergencies.
Among the starters is quicksilver sprinter Godfather's Girl from Tony Gollan's stable in Brisbane.
Godfather's Girl was in sparkling form last spring with victories in a qualifier and final of the Cannonball series.
Another six races are scheduled for the Newmarket meeting, each with a purse of $19,000 - Benchmark 58 Handicap (2000m), Class 2 (1200m), Maiden Plate (1400m), QTIS Maiden Plate (1100m), Three-Year-Old Maiden (1100m) and QTIS Two-Year-Old (1100m).
