She may be only 16 but Julia Creek cowgirl Sharlette Johnson is already in a league of her own as the only female rider at this year's Mount Isa Mines Rodeo.

Ms Johnson has big dreams of becoming a PBR bull rider and will make her Mount Isa debut in the junior bull ride and junior steer ride when competition kicks off from Thursday.
While she was born and bred in Beaudesert, Sharlette found her love for rough stock when her family relocated to the Northern Territory due to her father Troy's work in property management.
At just 7 she rode on her first poddy at the Northern Rodeo Association's Junior Rodeo at Adelaide River NT and has since gone on to win an All Round Cowgirl title and a Junior Steer Ride event in the NT.
But with her family now based in Julia Creek where Tony works as an agent with Elders, this student of the Mount Isa School of the Air will be hunting out some work to fund her rodeo future when graduation approaches.
In terms of training, Sharlette uses a basketball.
She stands on it for hours for balance all while watching Lane Frost Bull Talk - everyday.
