Charters Towers Combined agents yarded a total of 2583 cattle at Charters Towers on Wednesday, consisting of 1832 prime cattle and 751 store cattle.
The prime cattle consisted of 642 bullocks, 191 heifers, 679 cows and 320 bulls. Store cattle consisted of 328 steers, 98 mickeys, 312 heifers and 13 cows and calves.
Cattle consisted of mostly good runs of slaughter bullocks and cows. Stores were quite mixed, but price overall remained strong.
The yarding was drawn from Mt Isa, Normanton, Hughenden, Georgetown, Prairie, Einasleigh, as well as local and coastal areas.
Prime quotes:
Bullocks were quoted 10c dearer, heifers were 5-8c easier, cows were 10-12c dearer and bulls were 10-15c dearer on last week's rates.
Steers and bullocks under 500kg sold to 468c and averaged 437c, and those over 500kg topped at 440c to average 423c. Heifers under 440kg sold to 436c and averaged 397c. Cows under 400kg made 424c and averaged 332c, while cows over 400kg reached 404c, averaging 372c. Bulls under 450kg made 572c and averaged 368c, while bulls over 450kg reached 375c to average 342c.
Bullocks topped at 432.2c on a/c GA and WL Collins that weighed 639kg to return $2762/hd. Best priced trade heifers were presented on a/c Fletchervale that sold for 432.2c, weighing 454kg to return $1962/hd. The top pen of cows was sold by Lornevale Cattle Trust and Roseglen, for 380.2c, weighing 483kg to return $1836/hd. Bulls sold on a/c Maynard topped at 358.2c and weighed 895kg, to return $3206/hd.

Steers under 200kg reached 618c to average 585c, steers 200 - 320kg sold to 550c, averaging 487c, steers 320 - 400kg topped at 496c and averaged 451c and steers over 400kg sold to 440c to average 433c. Mickeys under 400kg sold to 572c, averaging 502c. Heifers under 200kg topped at 496c and averaged 461c, and heifers 200 - 320kg sold to 496c, averaging 442c.
A pen of 13 steers a/c Crisp Pastoral made 464.2c and weighed 387kg to return $1796/hd. A good pen of 12 heifers on a/c Crisp Pastoral made 436.2c weighed 284kg returning $1239/hd. Seven cows and calves sold on a/c Colinta Holdings returned $2960/unit.
