Police will allege around 5pm a Toyota Landcruiser travelling southbound on the Bruce Highway collided with a Toyota Corolla and a Mazda 3 travelling in the opposite direction.
The driver of the Mazda 3, a 47-year-old Ayr woman, died at the scene.
At the time, one of the passengers of the Mazda 3, a two-year-old boy, was transported to hospital in a critical condition but he died in hospital yesterday.
A 22-year-old Ayr man and driver of the Landcruiser was previously issued with a notice to appear to face one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death while adversely affected.
He is due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on December 7.
Investigations are continuing.
