One of 10 fashions on the field finalists will walk away with a cool $10,000 cash prize at the Cloncurry Derby day this Saturday.
Coordinator of the Cloncurry Fashions Series Elle Avery said that eight finalists have already been selected with the final two contenders to be picked this weekend ahead of a final later in the afternoon.
"We've had four race days already so we have eight finalists," Ms Avery told ABC north west on Tuesday.
"On Derby Day we'll choose another winner and runner-up and they will join the other eight in the final at 5pm."
Commins Contracting have put forward the cash prize for the day and Ms Avery said they were a company with a strong involvement in the local community.
"We have some amazing businesses in our district who are very supportive," she said.
Being Derby day, the theme will be black and white, but Ms Avery said there would not be a focus on traditional or contemporary styles, leaving some avenue for self-expression by the contenders.
"We don't have a competition that is more classic or contemporary, it is just the lady of the day so it really leaves it up to the expression of the individual."
She said the traditional black and white look was also always striking and was looking forward to see what the other finalists would be bringing to the table.
"The other finalists have won their round in their outfit based on the theme of the day - so they will have to re-invent themselves."
She said a number of the current finalists have had some direct input to their own outfits, whether it be dress-making or in their millinery, and that local contenders could certainly give city race days a shake.
With some strong competition expected, organisers have pulled out all the stops and are bringing in two highly regarded judges from Cairns for the weekend.
Arabella Kullack and Wayne Cosgrove will be the guest judges for Saturday's five-race meet and bring a wealth of experience in the fashion arena.
There will be fashions for juniors and couples from about 2pm ahead of the headline showdown with all of the judging centre stage at the Cloncurry and District Race Club on Saturday.
