Horticulture growers in the Burdekin region are invited to attend a meet and greet and member presentation hosted by the Bowen Gumlu Growers Association in Ayr later this month.

BGGA is the regional industry body representing growers, producers and agribusinesses throughout north Queensland.
BGGA general manager Ry Collins said the informal networking event will provide growers with the opportunity to meet with key industry stakeholders, including local businesses, government and BGGA's president and workforce officer, to discuss current concerns and issues.
"Engagement with industry stakeholders is vital to ensure we connect with our current members and provide growers and agribusinesses in the Burdekin region with information about our strategic priorities and projects and how we can work together to better their businesses and strengthen the local agriculture industry," he said.
Mr Collins said it has been a challenging couple of years for the horticulture sector, with COVID-19 border closures impacting the ability to secure and retain workers.
"The association has been dedicated to supporting our members' workforce needs and will continue to address this key focus and priority by providing our members with workplace relations, recruitment, visa and migration scheme advice and WHS and quarantine management support as well as developing worker attraction campaigns and youth engagement programs."
Mr Collins said BGGA also developed and facilitated industry growth through collaboration projects with members and industry partners.
"The association undertakes research and development initiatives to expand local production areas, manage pests and reduce input costs," he said.
"We seek funding support for projects to address challenges such as food waste, data collection and sustainability, and improve member business opportunities by developing capability in export and engaging with new markets."
The event will be held at the Queens Hotel in Ayr on October 27.
Local growers and agribusinesses who are interested in attending the event are encouraged to contact BGGA.
