Residents of Charters Towers are gearing up for a big one this weekend as the annual Towers Rush, Twilight Markets and Film Festival return to the region.
Leading the weekend's activities from 6pm on Saturday, October 9 will be the Twilight Markets and Film Festival.
The event will be held at the Charters Towers Showgrounds and will feature a range of market stalls, great food, and entertainment for both kids and adults alike.
Councillor Graham Lohmann, whose portfolio includes community events, said the Twilight Markets had always provided a great night out for families in the region.
"This year the Twilight Markets and Film Festival will offer a variety of food and market stalls which will showcase produce and products from local producers and suppliers," he said.
Mr Lohmann said approximately 40 market stalls were set to attend this year's event, which include a mix of western clothing, toys, jewellery, sweets, jerky, candles, and craft items.
"There will also be a number of community organisations offering information stalls, as well as the Towers Rush marquee where you can go to register your team or simply find out more about that great event happening on Sunday," he said.
"This year we will also be showing seven locally made short films, which the schools have been working on for the past few months."
Closely succeeding the night-time festivities and kicking off at 8.30am on Sunday October 10 will be the seventh annual Towers Rush.
Suitable for all ages and fitness levels, the fun-filled event is sure to convert the small regional town into one huge playground for a day through the many activities and challenges on offer.
Inviting teams of between two and five people, participants will gather at the showgrounds before setting off to navigate the far reaches of Charters Towers, and completing a variety of challenges and activities along the way.
Councillor Kate Hastie, whose portfolio covers sport and recreation said it is a fantastic event for the region.
"It's exciting to be able to offer an amazing event like Towers Rush to the community and visitors," she said.
"The event attracts hundreds of people from around the region, including Townsville, and provides a variety of activities.
"It's suitable for everyone from the young, to the young at heart, intellectuals and the keen athlete. Come out and give it a go and enjoy a day of great family fun."
Online registrations for the Towers Rush close midday Saturday.
Residents are also welcome to register at the Twilight Markets Towers Rush pop-up site from 6pm to 9pm, October 9.
