Charters Towers combined agents yarded a total of 1908 cattle last Wednesday, consisting of 592 bullocks, 302 heifers, 634 cows and 380 bulls.

Cattle consisted of fewer finished bullocks and cows which sold to strong rates, while the remainder of the cattle consisted of northern bulls and cows.
The yarding was drawn from Cloncurry, Normanton, Karumba, Richmond, Georgetown, as well as local and coastal areas.
Bullocks were quoted 5-8c dearer, heifers were unchanged, cows were 2-5c easier, and bulls were 5-8c dearer on last week's rates.
Steers and bullocks under 500kg sold to 428c and averaged 390c, and those over 500kg topped at 422c to average 409c. Heifers under 440kg sold to 400c and averaged 314c. Cows under 500kg made 346c and averaged 279c, while cows over 500kg reached 392c, averaging 349c. Bulls under 450kg made 456c and averaged 310c, while bulls over 450kg reached 338c to average 318c.
Bullocks topped at 422c on a/c Lennox family that weighed 566kg to return $2388/hd. Best priced trade heifers were presented on a/c AB and PS Stanford that sold for 390c, weighing 570kg to return $2223/hd. The top pen of cows was sold by Philipson Holdings for 350c, weighing 536kg to return $1876/hd. Bulls sold on a/c G and D Gordon topped at 338c and weighed 760kg, to return $2569/hd.
STORE SALE
Agents yarded 4469 cattle for Friday's store sale,consisting of 2934 steers, 1490 heifers and 45 cows and calves.
The yarding was drawn from Normanton, Camooweal, Mt Isa, Mt Garnet, Forsayth, Croydon, as well as local and coastal areas.
Store cattle were made up of a few larger lines of northern cattle, with a run of lighter weaners showing the effect of the season scattered through the yarding . The yarding was predominantly made up of Brahman and Brahman cross cattle.
Steers under 200kg reached 636c to average 564c, steers 200 - 320kg sold to 608c, averaging 462c, steers 320 - 400kg topped at 460c and averaged 424c and steers over 400kg sold to 392c to average 390c. Mickeys under 400kg sold to 594c, averaging 461c. Heifers under 200kg topped at 594c and averaged 470c, heifers 200 - 320kg sold to 500c, averaging 393c, and heifers 320 - 370kg made 418c to average 355c.
A pen of 31 steers a/c Matthews Cattle Co made 636c and weighed 144kg to return $915/hd. A pen of 17 steers a/c L and M Brazier made 514c and weighed 247kg and returned $1270/hd.
A good pen of 14 heifers on a/c Matthews Cattle Co made 594c weighed 166kg returning $986/hd. A pen of six heifers on a/c CNK Farming made 407c weighed 308kg returning $1257/hd. Two cows and calves sold on a/c C and L Roberts returned $2220/unit.
