FIERCE competition from the feedlot market propelled prices at the Central Queensland Livestock Exchange prime and store sale on Wednesday, where a coastal-bred run of 85 Brangus steers reached 490.2c.
The quality No.0 offering, which stirred bidding action among several lotfeeders, was drawn from Kenwill Holdings, Toorilla Plains, Stanage, and weighed 420kg to equal $2059/hd.
Julian Laver, Nutrien Ag Solutions Rockhampton, said the sale result reflected a broader trend of strong demand stemming from the feedlot industry.
"The feedlot game is driving the whole market at the moment, particularly for cattle which are fed for 100 days before processing, the demand there is exceptionally strong," Mr Laver said.
"Obviously, the demand from grass restockers is also strong and all good-quality lines are selling extremely well."
Across the board, Mr Laver described the 3288-head yarding as mixed quality and said prices were firm.
