By the time the day was done and dusted, over 500 people had been through the gate, getting together with friends, admiring fashions, trying out a few racing tips, and partying the night away.

Race club secretary Cassie Ryan said they were used to hosting 350-400 for their big day, so Saturday's crowd was a great boost for the small club.

"We got rained out last September and had a catch-up event in June this year, but this was the first Morven Cup for two years," she said. "Plus we had a live band from Toowoomba, that were very popular."

For the record, the Craig Smith-trained L'il Rodge won the Cup with jockey John Rudd on board.
