Charters Towers combined agents yarded a total of 1261 cattle at Wednesday's prime sale, consisting of 384 bullocks, 49 heifers, 541 cows, and 287 bulls.

The yarding was drawn from Normanton, Richmond, Julia Creek, Collinsville, Burketown, Mt Garnet, as well as Local and Coastal areas.
Cattle consisted of a mixed yarding, with some well finished cows and bulls, while the majority of the yarding was in plainer condition.
The quality of cattle reflected in the price, with it easing across the board on last week's market. Bullocks were unchanged. Due to quality and low numbers, heifers were 10-12c easier, cows were 3-5 easier and bulls 10- 15c easier on last week's rates.
Steers and bullocks under 500kg sold to 398c and averaged 375c, and those over 500kg topped at 390c to average 383c. Heifers over 440kg topped at 376c, averaging 346c. Cows under 400kg made 350c and averaged 269c, while cows over 400kg reached 348c, averaging 326c. Bulls 450-600kg made 378c and averaged 326c, while bulls over 600kg reached 368c to average 342c.
The top pen of bullocks made 390.2c, sold on a/c Paul Minuzzo that weighed 602kg, returning an average of $2349/hd. A pen of trade steers presented by a/c J and L Clarke that sold for 398.2c, that weighed 433kg, and returned $1723/hd. Best priced trade heifers were presented on a/c Philipson Holdings, selling for 348.2c, weighing 506kg and returning $1722/hd. The best pen of heavy cows were sold by Dixon Grazing for 342.2c, weighed 577kg and returned $1974/hd. A good pen of bulls sold on a/c B and S Ryan for 378.2ckg and weighed 823kg returning an average of $2932/hd.
STORE SALE
Agents yarded a total of 2342 cattle at Friday's store sale, consisting of 1570 steers, 719 heifers, 54x54 cows and calves.
The yarding was drawn from Burketown, Mt Isa, Pinnacles, Einasleigh, Ingham, Ayr, Collinsville, Mt Surprise, as well as Local and Coastal areas.
Cattle consisted of smaller runs of good quality steers and heifers, and despite the majority of the yarding showing signs of the season cattle prices remain very strong, with a competitive buying panel.
Steers under 200kg reached 676c to average 591c, steers 200 - 320kg sold to 644c, averaging 500c, steers 320 - 400kg topped at 482c and averaged 436c and steers over 400kg sold to 432c to average 394c. Mickeys under 400kg sold to 618c, averaging 479c. Heifers under 200kg topped at 562c and averaged 480c, heifers 200 - 320kg sold to 480c, averaging 408c, heifers 320 - 370kg made 416c to average 378c, and heifers over 370kg topped at 404c, averaging 410c.
A pen of 23 heavy feeder steers a/c Matthews Cattle P/L made 432.2c that averaged 413kg to return $1785/hd. A run of 63 #1 steers a/c Lascelles Past Co sold for 568.2c to average 249kg and return $1419/hd. A pen of 22 steers a/c R and S Kirkwood made 608.2c to weigh 230kg and return $1398/hd.
DO Hunt and LL Griffith sold 56 light steers for 676.2c weighing 150kg to return $1014/hd. A pen of 23 mickey bulls a/c BA and LE Corbett sold for 478.2c to weigh 274kg and return $1307/hd. A heavy pen of nine heifers a/c Ham x3 Pty Ltd made 404.2c, weighed 391kg returning an average of $1580/hd.
A run of 184 #0 Brahman heifers a/c Pemble Livestock P/L topped at 454c to average 424.5c, 250.9kg and $1065/hd. A good pen of 12 weaner heifers a/c RD Burgess and D Brazier made 480.2c to weigh 229kg and return $1100/hd. A light pen of 41 heifers sold a/c Ham x3 Pty Ltd made 544.2c to weigh 130kg and returned $707/hd. 29 x 29 cows and calves sold on a/c Rapisada Inv returned $2420/unit.
