Charters Towers combined agents yarded 3384 cattle last Wednesday, consisting of 1659 prime cattle and 1725 store cattle.

The prime cattle consisted of 591 bullocks, 216 heifers, 676 cows and 176 bulls. Store cattle consisted of 877 steers, 781 heifers and 67 cows and calves.
Cattle consisted of good quality lines of heavy finished bullocks, heifers and cows.
The yarding was drawn from Julia Creek, Richmond, Hughenden, Mt. Garnet, Mt. Surprise, Normanton as well as local and coastal areas.
Prime quotes:
Bullocks were quoted 12c dearer, heifers were 4c dearer, cows were 6c dearer and bulls were 15c easier on the previous week's rates.
Steers and bullocks under 500kg sold to 420c and averaged 368c, and those over 500kg topped at 420c to average 367c. Heifers under 440kg sold to 404c and averaged 376c, while heifers over 440kg topped at 390c, averaging 362c. Cows under 400kg made 324c and averaged 266c, while cows over 400kg reached 326c, averaging 311c. Bulls under 450kg made 420c and averaged 350c, while bulls over 450kg reached 378c to average 327c.
Bullocks topped at 340.2c a/c DJ and SM Hartwell that weighed 820kg to return $2789/hd. Best priced trade heifers were presented on a/c Department of Agriculture that sold for 390.2c, weighing 470kg to return $1834/hd. The top pen of cows was sold by PJ and KC Scharf, for 326.2c, weighing 633kg to return $2065/hd. Bulls sold on a/c Department of Agriculture topped at 370.2c and returned $1720/hd.
Store quotes:
Steers under 200kg reached 564c to average 521c, steers 200 - 320kg sold to 560c, averaging 429c, steers 320 - 400kg topped at 462c and averaged 439c and steers over 400kg sold to 454c to average 432c. Mickeys under 400kg sold to 565c, averaging 424c. Heifers under 200kg topped at 464c and averaged 429c, heifers 200 - 320kg sold to 450c, averaging 396c, and heifers 320 - 370kg made 446c to average 365c.
A pen of 23 steers a/c David Jackson & Sons made 454.2c and weighed 401kg to return $1823/hd. A pen of 12 heifers on a/c C and J Barden made 446.2c, weighed 362kg returning $1614/hd. 37 cows and calves sold on a/c A McClymont returned $2040/unit.
