Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has announced a lockdown for Cairns and Yarrabah following a positive COVID-19 result in the region.
"As I don't have all of the other information, I think it's reasonable that people in [Cairns and Yarrabah] have two visitors, but if you don't need to have visitors, don't," Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young said.
"Only leave for those really essential reasons and we'll get on top of it."
The taxi driver worked from July 31 until August 4 while infectious.
The Cairns lockdown announcement came as South East Queensland's lockdown was lifted from 4pm today after 9 cases were announced today including 7 linked to the known Brisbane cluster, one on the Gold Coast, and the one in Cairns.
"The lockdown will end in those 11 [South East Queensland] LGAs, but some restrictions must stay in place for the next two weeks," Ms Palaszczuk said.
"I just want everyone to have a really good understanding that we are dealing with the Delta strain. It is highly, highly infectious."
In South East Queensland, all high schoolers will be required to wear masks at school.
