PRIME SALE
Charters Towers combined agents yarded a total of 1572 cattle at last Wednesday's prime sale.
The yarding was drawn from Borroloola, Mt Garnett, Bowen, Julia Creek, Normanton, Cloncurry, Richmond as well as local and coastal areas.
Cattle consisted of smaller mixed lots of predominantly unfinished bullocks and a few very good runs of finished cows along with a bigger portion of mixed quality.
A full buyers' panel was present and all descriptions sold to competitive prices.
Steers and bullocks under 500kg sold to 414c and averaged 387c, and those over 500kg topped at 396c to average 377c. Heifers over 440kg topped at 388c, averaging 328c. Cows under 400kg made 315c and averaged 263c, while cows over 400kg reached 324c, averaging 308c. Bulls under 450kg made 378c and averaged 348c, while bulls over 450kg reached 380c to average 343c.
The top pen of bullocks made 386.2c, sold on a/c Maitland Grazing that weighed 606kg, returning an average of $2341 /hd. Best priced trade heifers were presented on a/c Nardoo Pastoral NQ that sold for 388.2c, weighed 457kg and returned $1772 /hd. The top pen of 20 cows was sold by RJ and JJ Hyden for 324.2c, weighed 564kg and returned $1828/hd. Bulls sold on a/c Matt McClymont topped at 378.2c and weighed 698kg returning an average of $2639/hd.
STORE SALE
There was a yarding of 4210 for Friday's store sale, consisting of 3227 steers, 951 heifers and 32 x 32 cows and calves.
The yarding was drawn from Greenvale, Mt Garnett, Normanton, Richmond, Pentland, Bowen, Ingham, as well as local and coastal areas.
Cattle consisted of larger lines of quality steers, including one main run of Brahman steers presenting from the Gulf, with all cattle selling to a smaller but competitive buying panel. Heifers consisted of smaller mixed lines, which still met with strong support.
Steers under 200kg reached 582c to average 544c, steers 200 - 320kg sold to 598c, averaging 512c, steers 320 - 400kg topped at 492c and averaged 446c and steers over 400kg sold to 452c to average 438c. Mickeys under 400kg sold to 630c, averaging 496c. Heifers under 200kg topped at 472c and averaged 427c, heifers 200 - 320kg sold to 488c, averaging 416c, and heifers over 320kg made 436c to average 384c.
Topping the steer section of the sale were 26 Brahman weaner steers sold a/c Minnamoolka Cattle Co, selling for 598.2c, weighing 205kg, returning $1225/hd. A run of 923 steers a/c Moor Moor Pastoral Co sold to a top of 564c, with the line averaging 510.2c, 258kg and $1314/hd.
A pen of 17 mickeys sold on a/c Green Grass Developments, making 480.2c and weighed 340kg returning an average of $1632/hd. 24 feeder steers sold on a/c I and J Levers for 452.2c, weighing 430kg and returning $1944/hd. Best priced heifers were presented on a/c Minnamoolka Cattle Co, selling for 488.2c, weighing 202kg and returning $985/hd.
A pen of 16 heifers sold on a/c JM Hosie and MJ McClymont made 406.2c and weighed 391kg to return an average of $1589/hd. Several smaller lots of cows and calves sold in a range from $780 to $1700/unit.
