PRIME SALE
Charters Towers combined agents yarded a total of 2025 cattle at last Wednesday's prime sale.
Cattle consisted of two runs of finished bullocks, with runs of bulls and cows selling for good prices.
The yarding was drawn from Mt Isa, Hughenden, Normanton, Georgetown, Collinsville, as well as local and coastal areas.
Bullocks were quoted 5-8c easier, heifers were unchanged, cows were 5-8c dearer, and bulls were 5-10c dearer on the previous week's rates.
Steers and bullocks under 500kg sold to 426c and averaged 358c, and those over 500kg topped at 424c to average 371c. Heifers under 440kg sold to 402c and averaged 360c. Cows under 400kg made 308c and averaged 275c, while cows over 400kg reached 327c, averaging 314c. Bulls under 450kg made 378c and averaged 328c, while bulls over 450kg reached 378c to average 332c.
Bullocks topped at 374.2c on a/c Lyndhurst Cattle Co that weighed 628kg to return $2315/hd. A pen of 21 heifers was presented on a/c Cunningham Cattle Co that sold for 394.2c, weighing 401kg to return $1580/hd. The top pen of 12 cows was sold by GD and KR Harriman for 327.2c, weighing 561kg to return $1835/hd. Bulls sold on a/c EJT and KL Camp, topped at 378.2c and weighed 637kg, to return $2407/hd.
STORE SALE
Agents yarded 3633 cattle at Friday's store sale. Cattle comprised predominantly good lines of quality Brahman and crossbred steers and heifers, selling to high prices not seen in Charters Towers before.
The yarding was drawn from Winton, Richmond, Georgetown, Forsayth, Mt Garnet, Mt Isa, as well as local and coastal areas.
Quality steers, heifers and mickeys sold very well to a strong panel of buyers from central and southern Queensland.
Steers under 200kg reached 606c to average 570c, steers 200 - 320kg sold to 630c, averaging 534c, steers 320 - 400kg topped at 526c and averaged 461c and steers over 400kg sold to 440c to average 434c. Mickeys under 400kg sold to 566c, averaging 485c. Heifers under 200kg topped at 500c and averaged 443c, heifers 200 - 320kg sold to 492c, averaging 422c, and heifers 320 - 370kg made 408c to average 383c.
A run of 109 crossbred steers a/c Hammer Grazing made 627c and weighed 227kg to return $1423/hd. A run of 542 Brahman steers a/c Hillgrove Pastoral, Charters Towers made 551c and weighed 288kg to return $1586/hd.
A good pen of eight heifers on a/c DG and JE Cairns made 484c weighed 373kg returning $1805/hd. A run of 313 heifers a/c Matthews Cattle Co made 437c and weighed 300kg to return $1311/hd. Eight cows and calves sold on a/c M and M Kingham returned $2150/unit.
