PRIME SALE
Charters Towers combined agents yarded a total of 2089 prime cattle on Wednesday, consisting of 794 bullocks, 312 heifers, 884 cows and 99 bulls.

Cattle comprised quality lines of heavy bullocks and cows which sold to a stronger panel of exporters and processors, realising an increase in the market of up to 10 cents.
The yarding was drawn from Richmond, Hughenden, Julia Creek, Georgetown, Einasleigh, Mt Surprise, Mt Isa and local and coastal areas.
Bullocks were quoted 10c dearer, heifers were 5c dearer, cows were 10c dearer and bulls 5c dearer on the last sale's rates.
Steers and bullocks under 500kg sold to 416c and averaged 378c, and those over 500kg topped at 381c to average 374c. Heifers up to 540kg sold to 376c and averaged 325c. Cows under 400kg made 284c and averaged 254c, while cows over 400kg reached 312c, averaging 296c. Bulls under 450kg made 378c and averaged 344c, while bulls over 450kg reached 376c to average 315c.
Bullocks topped at 379.2c for 20 bullocks sold on a/c Lyndhurst Cattle Co that weighed 608kg to return $2305/hd. Best priced trade heifers were presented on a/c 2K Cattle that sold for 372.2c and weighed 470c to return $1749/hd. A pen of eight cows sold on a/c M Stanger and K Gilligan, Tomato Spring, made 302.2c to return an average $1643/hd. A line of 282 Brahman cross bullocks sold on a/c Maitland Grazing averaged 371.6c, weighing 531kg to return $1973.77/hd.
STORE SALE
At Friday's store sale there were 3051 cattle yarded, consisting of 48 prime cattle and 3003 store cattle. The store section consisted of 1213 steers, 528 mickeys, 1218 heifers and 40 x 40 cows and calves.
The yarding consisted of predominantly good quality lines of both steers and heifers, reflecting the kind winter with the bulk presenting in good condition.
Competition was strong for all categories and this was reflected in the increased prices.
Steers under 200kg reached 624c to average 575c, steers 200 - 320kg sold to 594c, averaging 517c, steers 320 - 400kg topped at 472c and averaged 437c and steers over 400kg sold to 454c to average 412c. Mickeys under 400kg sold to 590c, averaging 386c. Heifers under 200kg topped at 498c and averaged 450c, heifers 200 - 320kg sold to 480c, averaging 399c, and heifers 320 - 370kg made 446c to average 371c.
A pen of No. 0 Brahman steers a/c Mt McConnel Co sold for 472.2c to weigh 308kg returning $1457/hd. No. 1 Brahman steers a/c Mt McConnel Co sold for 572.2c to weigh 210.5kg and $1204/hd. A pen of 40 steers a/c RD and LA French topped the sale at 624.2c and weighed 161kg, returning $1004/hd. Good quality Brahman heifers a/c LW Cross made 425c, weighing 310kg to return $1317/hd. LW and CJ Wheeler sold quality Brahman heifers for 442.2c, to weigh 220kg returning $972/hd.
Mt McConnel Co sold a pen of quality Brahman heifers for 452.2c, weighing 198kg realising $897/hd. A good pen of 38 heifers on a/c RD and LA French topped at 498.2c weighed 139kg returning $692/hd. Two cows and calves sold on a/c BW and MI Landsberg, Charters Towers, topped the sale at $2240/unit. Several lines of cows and calves sold in a range from $1800 to $2240/unit.
