There was a yarding of 1008 head at Emerald cattle sale on Thursday, an increase of 211 head on last the previous week's numbers.
It was a mixed offering with a large percentage of processor cows. Two major processors were not present which was reflected in the prices easing on last sales improved rates. Other variations in price were quality related.
Small numbers of vealer steers averaged 557c and sold to a top of 596c/kg. Vealer heifers were also in light supply, selling to 468c to average 416c to 431c/kg. Yearling steers averaged from 452c to 490c, making to a top of 529c/kg. Yearling heifers topped at 447c and averaged from 407c to 440c with a few heavy heifers averaging 350c/kg.
Grown steers going onto feed sold to a top of 404c, averaging 368c to 401c/kg. Grown heifers were very mixed, with those going onto feed selling to 340c and those to the trade selling to a top of 351c/kg. Heavy score 4 cows sold to 311c, averaging 295c/kg. Heavy bulls to live export made a top of 340c/kg. One pen of cows and calves sold for $2,240/unit.
