Flinders Shire mayor Jane McNamara has been honoured with a Women in Agriculture award during the Northern Australia Food Futures conference.
Cr McNamara was one of three recipients of the award, alongside mango producer Tou Saramat Ruchkaew from the Northern Territory and Bothkamp Australia Farm founder Gabbi Bloecker from Western Australia.
Cr McNamara was given the award for her tireless work advocating for the Flinders Shire including in fostering the development of new agriculture projects and campaigning for improved transport and digital communications infrastructure.
NT Farmers Association CEO Paul Burke said the award acknowledged the dedication, hard work and sacrifices made by women working in and supporting the agricultural industry across the north.
"The selection panel really struggled to select just one winner from each state and Territory, this award could have been given to so many amazing women in the north," he said.
"The award recipients have all contributed enormously to the north and deserve to be recognised.
"Without them our industry would not be as strong and innovative as it is today."
Cr McNamara said it was humbling to receive the award.
"I am very excited about it because the Flinders Shire since 2016 has been working towards the 15 Mile project and the grape farm and we've now also bought Riverside Station," she said.
"We've got a vision for a horticultural precinct for this region and I'm really looking forward to the adventure ahead."
