Over 40 pens of flock sheep, 31 of them competing in the flock ewe competition and 15 in the trade section, were penned for the Longreach Show this year.
Isisford exhibitors Will and Marcelle Chandler repeated their success of Tambo and Blackall shows with their pen of six tooth Egelabra blood ewes taking out the grand champion pen ribbon for Oma.
They had earlier won both the champion long wool and short wool ribbons and collected the aggregate trophy, while Bloomfield at Blackall showed the champion single ewe.
Fellow Blackall breeders at Springleigh had the champion pen of lambs and Longreach's Kappa Ki won the ribbon for champion pen of locally-bred sheep.
The Tindall family at Janet Downs south of Longreach had both champion and reserve champion pens of trade sheep, the champions being three and four-year-old Merino wethers, Well Gully bloodlines, averaging 83kg, and the reserve champions being the winning pen of lambs.
"We're over the moon with this result," Lauren Tindall said. "It's not often we get one of these ribbons."
Only Merinos were shown in the trade section and steward Tom Boyle, TopX said numbers were up because growers finally had fat sheep and were keen to show them off.
