Charters Towers combined agents yarded a total of 4166 cattle last week, consisting of 2053 prime cattle and 2113 store cattle. The prime cattle consisted of 465 bullocks, 197 heifers, 1161 cows and 230 bulls. Store cattle consisted of 1245 steers, 838 heifers and 30 x 30 cows and calves.

Cattle consisted of good lines of slaughter cattle as well as a couple of good lines of PTIC cows.
The yarding was drawn from Croydon, Mt Garnet, Richmond, Normanton, Cloncurry, Hughenden, Julia Creek, Einasleigh, Collinsville, Ayr, Home Hill as well as local and coastal areas.
Prime quotes:
Bullocks were quoted 5-10c dearer, heifers were 10c dearer, cows were 2-5c dearer and bulls unchanged on the previous week's rates.
Steers and bullocks under 500kg sold to 428c and averaged 391c, and those over 500kg topped at 374c to average 355c. Heifers over 440kg topped at 388c, averaging 340c. Cows under 400kg made 290c and averaged 258c, while cows over 400kg reached 368c, averaging 292c. Bulls under 450kg made 444c and averaged 368c, while bulls over 450kg reached 338c to average 306c.
A pen of heavy bullocks topped at 360c for two bullocks sold on a/c Edinburgh Park, that weighed 595kg to return $2143/hd. A line of 253 Brahman feeder steers a/c Pedracini Grazing Trust sold for an average of 387c to weigh 393kg to return an average of $1519/hd. Best priced trade heifers were presented on a/c Lawnhill, that sold for 330c, weighing 402kg to return $1327/hd The top pen of cows was sold by Running River Pastoral for 292c, weighing 592kg to return $1728/hd. Bulls sold on a/c Rocky Springs Projects topped at 326c and weighed 729kg, to return $2378/hd.

Store cattle consisted of small lines of good quality feeder steers and heifers which sold to an exuberant buyers' gallery.
Steers under 200kg reached 542c to average 503c, steers 200 - 320kg sold to 528c, averaging 444c, steers 320 - 400kg topped at 438c and averaged 403c and steers over 400kg sold to 390c to average 370c. Mickeys under 400kg sold to 500c, averaging 406c. Heifers under 200kg topped at 460c and averaged 439c, heifers 200 - 320kg sold to 430c, averaging 385c, and heifers 320 - 370kg made 385c to average 353c.
A pen of 14 steers a/c Condon Grazing made 542c and weighed 186kg, returning an average of $1008/hd. A pen of 14 mickeys a/c JG and RH Rich made 460c and weighed 266kg, returning an average of $1226. A good pen of 39 heifers a/c Inverleigh Pastoral made 460c, weighed 122kg and returned $561/hd. Two cows and calves sold on a/c G and M Power returned $2100/unit.
