THE momentum of the cattle industry shows no sign of letting up in 2021 if the first day of the Big Country Brahman Sale in Charters Towers is anything to go by.
With dark clouds looming and thunder rumbling in the distance, bidders packed the Dalrymple Saleyard complex in an attempt to get their hands on quality red Brahmans and heifers at the first major sale of the year.
The sale set a cracking pace with all 107 red bulls selling today to gross $1,777,000 and record an average of $16,605 - almost double last year's red Brahman average of $8,690.
Ashley Kirk, Rockley Brahmans, made the sale top with Rockley Magnar 266 (IVF) (P/S), selling for $90,000 to the Mollenhagen family, Mountain Springs Brahman Stud.
Heifers also sold well, with 108 selling to gross $725,000 and average $6715.
Brett Nobbs had the top price female with NCC Dienka 5039 (IVF) selling for $32,000 to Lornevale Pastoral,.
Day two of the sale kicks off at 8.30am on Tuesday, with 201 grey bulls set to go under the hammer.
