A two-hour extrication process was needed to free a man in his twenties trapped in a vehicle on the Stanage Bay Road on Tuesday morning as the result of a single vehicle rollover.
The man, a French national who who has been holidaying in Australia for the last year, was pinned in the vehicle between the steering wheel and the seat and had sustained serious lower limb injuries.
According to an RACQ Capricorn Rescue spokesperson, the extrication was very difficult because the vehicle was laying on its roof and because of its proximity to a river bed on the road over 100km north of Rockhampton.
Queensland Ambulance and Queensland Fire and Rescue personnel were both in attendance, and RACQ Capricorn Rescue was tasked to the accident by Queensland Health.
The spokesperson said the man was eventually removed from the vehicle and loaded onto the helicopter for the onward flight to the Rockhampton Base Hospital.
He remained in a serious but stable condition for the duration of the flight.
It's the second task to the Stanage Bay area within 12 hours for RACQ Capricorn Rescue, which retrieved a woman with facial injuries on Monday night.
She too was flown to Rockhampton Base Hospital in a stable condition.
