Parts of Queensland will be welcoming cool and wet conditions over the Christmas period.
Central Queensland is expecting more of the same with wet and stormy conditions expected across the region.
Mount Isa should expect a reprieve from this weeks record rainfall on Christmas Day, with stormy conditions expected to continue from Boxing Day into the New Year.
Overnight Richmond enjoyed 61mm of rain and local publican Mark Lewis said the downpour was just the Christmas present the community needed.
"It's just beautiful in the town with last night's rain," he said.
"Everybody's doing it tough, and we're hanging in.
"We get a little bit of rain and brings up the town's spirt and it's never worse as what it was after a bit of rain."
In 2019, Richmond didn't receive a single drop in the month of December. Already this month the town has enjoyed 97mm.
Mr Lewis said the weather has been nice way to end a very tough year, particularly for regional hospitality.
"It's been a really tough year with COVID but every cloud has a silver lining," he said.
"We've had two-year-old frogs who can't swim.
"If we can get a few more showers and rain this town will kick right off again."
A cool change is expected to move across the state's south, ending days of hot and sticky conditions.
Warwick will welcome a forecast 27C on Christmas Day with possible showers, ending days of humidity.
Toowoomba will be mostly dry with a top of 24C.
Roma will welcome a forecast wet Christmas Day with a peak of 24C after a scorching 39C Christmas Day last year.
Matt Marshall from the Bureau of Meteorology said the cooler Christmas conditions are evidence of a building La Nina season.
"La Nina is in the process of building up, we're seeing records break and massive falls throughout the centre of the state," he said.
"The bigger rainfall months will be from January through to March.
"It might be late to get into the season so far but we're definitely building up to a strong La Nina."
