FARMERS protesting the proposed Inland Rail route across the Condamine River floodplain will meet with the chair of a Senate Committee investigating the management of the project in Toowoomba this morning.
The Millmerran Rail Group will meet with Senator Glenn Sterle, who chairs the Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport: References Committee, which is investigating the Management of the Inland Rail project by the Australian Rail Track Corporation and the Commonwealth Government.
Millmerran Rail Group chair Wes Judd said farmers wanted to update the senator on developments in the project and discuss assessments and other options.
"It's an opportunity for farmers on the floodplain to discuss with Senator Sterle about what is happening on the ground," Mr Judd said.
The Millmerran Rail Group maintains the construction of the Inland Rail across the agriculturally important Condamine River floodplain will have disastrous impacts for the region's highly productive farmland.
The group is proposing the Inland Rail is constructed on country further to the west.
The Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport committee held hearings in Millmerran in January as part of an ongoing inquiry.
The committee's findings are scheduled to be released on February 11.
