NOVEMBER rain is proving increasingly elusive despite the hype surrounding promised wetter than average La Nina conditions.
In fact, according to Bureau of Meteorology forecasting shows there is virtually no rain forecast for Queensland at least until Saturday.
Even at the weekend the outlook is grim, with blue skies for the western half of the state and deteriorating pastures and rising bush fire risks in many areas.
The best of it is promised for parts of Central Queensland, where 10-15mm has been inked in.
BOM says tomorrow (Wednesday) a weakening ridge will persist along the east coast, while a weak trough over western districts will begin to move eastwards.
On Thursday a high moving into the Great Australian Bight will extend a ridge over western Queensland in the wake of the trough.
BOM says the airmass ahead of the trough will be relatively dry, with only isolated showers and thunderstorms expected over south east Queensland, with little chance of significant rainfall.
On Friday the high in the Great Australian Bight will extend a ridge across the south west Queensland. The trough will begin to move inland with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms about central eastern districts. BOM says the trough will drift westwards, with moist air spreading back inland on its eastern flank.
The high moving eastwards over south eastern Australia will extend a ridge into south east Queensland. BOM says there is a slight to medium chance of showers and thunderstorms over eastern and northern districts, and possibly spreading across the central interior. However, only blue sky is shown on BOM's own forecast maps.
From Saturday to Monday BOM says some locally heavy rainfall is possible, with thunderstorms about parts of the southern and central inland. However, the official forecaster has hedged its bets, saying the focus of the activity is unclear at this stage.
BOM also advised the chances of a cyclone developing in the next three days are very low - less than 5 per cent.
