Julia Creek will host a charity rodeo and auction in honour of North Queensland horseman Ron Wall, who sadly passed away last week.
Ron Wall has become a household name in the horse industry, campdraft and challenge communities and was known for his kindheartedness approach to horsemanship.
Vice President Scott McCormack said Ronnie was a well known horseman who had done a lot for the industry.
"Ronnie worked at Millungera Station at Julia Creek with the Acton family for 17 years, arriving around the age of 16," Mr McCormack said.
"From there he has gone on to breaking in horses, hosting horse clinics throughout North and Central Queensland and Northern Territory.
"Ronnie was employed by a number of cattle stations like North Australian Pastoral Company, Australian Agriculture Company, Western Grazing to do breaking in clinics and horsemanship clinics."
Mr McCormack said passion for the horse industry would be Ronnie's legacy.
"Ronnie has won the Cloncurry Stockman's Challenge twice, Rocky Rush Stockman's Challenge and numerous open campdrafts; but also just a likable bloke who was always up for a laugh and a beer.
"He was always happy and willing to help you, it didn't matter who you were, or the time of day he would pull up and have a yarn."
The charity rodeo and auction will commence at 5pm on September 18 at the Julia Creek Equestrian Centre.
"All proceeds from the event will go to Ronnie's family to help out with any expenses," Mr McCormack said.
"Tickets for the event go on sale tonight (Monday September 14) and there is a limit of 500 in-line with COVID-19 regulations.
"The auction will commence before the finals, with large auction items including a "Conman" service fee from the Hall family, a "RS Chisum" service fee from the Landsdowne family and a "Moonbeam" service from the Acton family.
"We have received unbelievable sponsorship for this event and auction items from businesses in Julia Creek and Cloncurry."
CK Bucking Bulls and AJ Remfrey Broncs will provide the rough stock for the event and there will be a sausage sizzle and bar until midnight.
A GoFundMe page has also been set up to help support the Wall family, having already raised over $56,000. You can donate here: https://gf.me/u/yxj9na
