QUEENSLAND is expected to receive some light to moderate rain starting tomorrow, but far less than the handy falls the Bureau of Meteorology promised on Monday.
Today's forecasts are a significant wind-back on the official forecasts issued on August 10, which showed a large band of southern Queensland receiving a beneficial 10mm (see map at bottom of story).
BOM says on Friday a trough over western Queensland will deepen and move east as a strong cold front moves across the south west of the state.
According to BOM there is a slight to medium chance of showers in western and southern districts, increasing to a high to very high chance of showers tending to rain in the south west and southern interior. There is also a chance of gusty thunderstorms in the southern interior.
BOM says on Saturday a cold front and trough system will move across central and southern districts. There is a slight to medium chance of showers over the southern interior and central districts increasing to a high to very high chance over the south east.
Areas of rain over the south east interior on Saturday morning, tending to showers by the afternoon. There is again the chance of gusty thunderstorms over the south east.
BOM says the system will push offshore early on Sunday. There is a slight chance of showers about the Granite Belt, and Fraser Island and exposed parts of the Capricornia coast during the morning.
There is a risk of frost in the south east interior on Monday.
