Droughtmaster weaner steers sell for 450c/$900 at Gracemere


Buyers were competitive on all lines at Gracemere on Wednesday.


CQLX Gracemere agents yarded a total of 3693 head on Wednesday, comprising 1698 steers, 1385 heifers, 473 cows, 72 bulls, and 65 cows and calves.

All cattle retained last week's inflated values with buyers being competitive on all lines.

Cattle were drawn from Nebo, St Lawrence, Monto, Gin Gin, Biloela, Clermont, and local areas. All the usual buyers were in attendance.

Slaughter steers sold to 344.2c, average 313.6c, steers 400-500kg made 388.2c, average 352.8c, steers 300-400kg reached 400c, average 363c, steers 200-300kg made 448.2c, average 401.9c and steers under 200kg sold to 450.2c, average 397.6c.

Slaughter cows sold to 331.2c, average 267.9c, cows 400-450kg made 323.2c, average 256.8c, cows 320-400kg reached 294.2c, average 240.2c, and cows under 320kg made 220.2c, average 203.3c.

Heavy heifers sold to 356.2c, average 322.5c, heifers 300-400kg made 360.2c, average 327.5c, heifers 200-300kg reached 382.2c, average 346.5c, and heifers under 200kg made 370.2c, average 346.6c.

Bulls over 600kg made 296.2c, average 257.6c, bulls 450-600kg reached 318.2c, average 276.5c and bulls under 450kg sold to 386.2c, average 340.5c.

S Bell and J Williams, Kabra, sold a pen of Droughtmaster steers for 410c, to weigh 279kg average, returning $1145/hd. Clifton and Alexander, Nankin, sold Droughtmaster weaner steers for 450c, weighing 200kg to return $900/hd. JG and MA McCartney, Marlborough, sold No.9 Brahman steers for 396c, weighing 387kg to return $1518/hd.

The Stewart family, Ridgelands, sold Brangus weaner steers for 440c, weighing 284kg to return $1252/hd. Wales Grazing, Biloela, sold Brahman cross steers for 376c, weighing 427kg to return $1607/hd. The Sharpe family, Biloela, sold Charbray steers for 388c, weighing 407kg to return $1581/hd.

Kevin Harvey, Kunwarara, sold Brahman cross cows for 280c, weighing 523kg to return $1467/hd.
