A TRAVELLING greengrocer who provides fresh fruit and vegetables to remote communities and a passionate cricked enthusiast have been honoured for their commitment to their communities.
Tolga's Fariborez Rameshfar has been awarded an OAM in the general division of the Queen's Birthday awards for his service to remote communities in Far North Queensland.
Mervyn 'Roma' Bailey was also honoured for his service to cricket, and to the community of Charters Towers.
Mr Rameshfar has spent the last three decades delivering fresh fruit and vegetables to people in outback towns and on cattle stations in the north-west and Far North Queensland.
The qualified aircraft engineer migrated from Iran to Australia in 1973, first setting in Melbourne before moving with wife Ivy to the Atherton Tablelands in 1983 to raise their two children.
A member of the Baha'i faith, Mr Rameshfar has driven his refrigerated truck up to 2000km a week to deliver the fresh produce to remote Queenslanders and is much loved in the region.
Mr Bailey is well known in Charters Towers for his long association with the Charters Towers Junior Cricket Association, serving as president from 1993 to 2018 and as its current treasurer.
He has also been involved in various other roles as coach, manager, player, selector, groundsman, committee member and canteen volunteer.
His other cricket commitments include as current vice-president of the Queensland Country Cricket Association, a member of the Charters Towers Goldfields Ashes Committee, former president of Tropical North Cricket Zone, North Queensland Cricket Alliance and a former member of the Townsville Cricket Board.
Mr Bailey is also a former Charters Towers Regional Councillor, is involved with the Charters Towers Men's Shed and is a founding member of Our Town Foundation.
