LARRY ACTON, the man instrumental in unifying broadacre agriculture in Queensland, has been awarded life membership of AgForce at the organisation's 20th year celebrations on Thursday night.
Mr Acton, who served as AgForce's inaugural president, was a driving force behind the unification of the United Graziers Association, the Queensland Grain Growers Association and the Cattlemens Union and the creation of AgForce in 1999.
"I aged about 10 years in six months," Mr Acton said. "It wasn't easy, but it was something that the majority of the memberships of all the organisations recognised had to be done. There is no doubt in my mind that agriculture are now better and more professionally represented."
AgForce now has about 5500 members across the state.
