The sale strategy for the cattle offloaded from Rewan at Rolleston continued at Emerald this week with good results.
Some 2259 head of EU Droughtmaster heifers and steers sold by Cattle JV P/L through the Roma yards last week were followed with the sale of the Brahman portion of the herd at Emerald.
Garry Cartwright, Elders Dalby, said they had targeted the Emerald yards thinking the Brahman cattle would be ideal for backgrounding for the live export trade.
"That was certainly the case," he said. "The cattle got a good spread on them - they went from Winton to places up north."
The consignment lifted the weaner steer section of the market by 60c/kg.
The 842 Brahman steers averaged 251.4c/kg for 207kg to return $522 per head.
The top pen went for 264.2c/kg at 236kg for $623 a head.
They also consigned 448 Brahman mickies which averaged 234.3c/kg at 182kgs to return an average $426 per head.
The highest pen, weighing 194kg, went for 256c/kg or $496 a head.
Apart from that, agents yarded a total of 2034 head, 226 less than the previous week.
Cattle where sourced from all local areas as well as the large consignment from Rolleston and another from Nebo.
Bullocks rose 12c/kg on average to top at 303.2c/kg with limited supply offered.
Heavy feeder steers 400kg to 500kg fell 5c/kg to top at 286c/kg whilst their lighter brothers 280kg to 350kgs increased by 44c/kg on average, topping at 261c/kg.
Cows over 520 kgs topped at 217c/kg to average 206c/kg, back 2c/kg from last week, whilst the 400kg to 520kg range reached 215c/kg to average 178c/kg.
Limited supply of good fat heifers were offered, losing 3c/kg on average to top at 277c/kg, whilst their younger sisters 350 to 400kg averaged 234c/kg, and light weaner heifers under 200kg topped at 160c/kg.
