QUEENSLAND cowboy Darcy Kersh leads five of the rookie standings lists at the end of the Australian Professional Rodeo Association season.
Kersh is first in all around cowboy rookie standings and also leads rope and tie, steer wrestling, team roping header and team roping heeler standings.
In the all around standings, he has won twice as much money as runner-up Tom Kerr, NSW. Kerr has won the rookie title in saddle bronc.
The current season has finished and the top 15 in each event have qualified for the Warwick Rodeo APRA National Finals on October 24-27
Kersh is fourth in the all around cowboy standings behind Victorian star Terry Evison and Central Queensland pair Campbell Hodson and Shane Kenny.
In the rookie all around cowgirl standings, Victorian star Georgia Kapeller has won the rookie title from Hayley Rogers and Kylie Hancock. Rogers has won the most money in the barrel race.
The last rodeo of the APRA season was at Gargett in North Queensland on Saturday where there was a full round of rough stock events and a barrel race.
Clayton Braden won the open saddle bronc with a score of 82 on Pugsley. Greg Hamilton travelled from Mitchell to score 78 and NSW cowboy Tim Hammond was third on 75.
Bailey Woodard and George Chong recorded two of the highest scores of the season at 86 to split first in the open bull ride at Gargett.
In the bareback bronc ride, Stanthorpe rider Lukas Wilkinson won with 74 on War Horse from standings leader Ben Hall who calls Tumbarumba, NSW home.
While some riders have qualified for the finals in the rope and tie, steer wrestling and team roping, there aren't too many who compete in both timed and rough stock events.
At the end of last year's national finals, SA cowboy Tom Willoughby said he was keen to make the finals in five events.
Willoughby finished seventh in bareback.
APRA bull riders will get two chances to compete before the national finals in Warwick - the Burnie Show Bulls and Barrels is on October 4-5 and the Xtreme Bulls event at Luddenham (NSW) on October 12.
