Southern interest in fat western Queensland cattle helped push another round of impressive prices at Blackall's end of the month weaner sale on Thursday.
More than 4500 head were yarded at the sale, with steer prices topping out just north of 320 cents per kilogram and heifers topping around 280c/kg.
Boyd Curran from Landmark Western said prices had been consistently "outstanding" at the Blackall sale in recent months.
"Especially these weaner and fat cattle sales at the end of the month, where we attract big numbers. We've yarded just over 4500 head here today.
"I think our steers topped out at a little bit over 320c/kg. That's been excellent.
"Some of our heifers have been extremely strong too with some of the good feed. Some heifers are making close to $2.80."
Prices were buoyed by the strong competition from keen processors and lot feeders, Mr Curran said.
"There is very good competition here from a number of processors.
"That is the strength here at Blackall. We attract not just the mainstream processors but also processors from down South, who are coming here chasing fat cattle.
"We are getting a lot of Southern interest, not just processors but also lot feeders, who are coming up here chasing the quality of cattle."
George and Jenny Bambling received top dollar for their Charolais-cross heavy weaners from Hazelmere near Aramac, which sold for 322.2c/kg.
Those cattle, weighing around 300 kilograms, went to repeat buyers from Alpha.
"We are pleased with those prices," said Mr Bambling.
"Anything over $3 these days is a good price."
Agent Jack Burgess from GDL Blackall said another pen of the Bamblings' cattle had sold to a feedlot in Victoria.
"Re-stocker and feedlot activity has been strong today," he said.
