BRAHMAN producers Brett and Wendy Kerr, Clay Creek, Calliope, finished autumn on a sound note after a selling session at the Central Queensland Livestock Exchange in Gracemere.
The Kerrs consigned 13 weaner steers to the CQLX auction on May 31 and buyers took a liking to their stock, according to sale receipts which confirmed they averaged 250c/kg, weighing 260kg for a return of $651/head.
Mr Kerr said the weather had not been overly kind to their property.
"There has been just enough rain to keep some green but there has been no real water to account for," he said.
"It has affected our production. The cattle are not as fat as they should be - that's the bottom line.
"We do supplementary feeding. Getting some good rain will do wonders."
The Kerr shipment was part of a total yarding of 2421 head, a slight drop on early expectations when organisers thought they might put 2900 head under the hammer.
However, the yarding was diverse with 1107 steers, 832 heifers, 436 cows, 16 bulls and 30 cow and calf lots.
"There was mixed quality. For all descriptions, the market again held firm to a slight ease on last week's rate," a sale spokesman said.
Of the highlight lots, KP & SJ McBride, Gogango, sold Droughtmaster Feeder Mickies to 278c, weighing 443kg for a return of$1232/head.
