The Central Highlands Colt Starting display run by Colt Starting Australia is once again expected to draw the crowds to take an educational glimpse into the heart of professional Australian horsemanship.
The program, run over two days for four hours each day at the Ag-Grow Emerald Field Days, shows how to correctly start a horse while also promoting top performance horse bloodlines.
While other colt starting shows have come and gone, Colt Starting Australia stands strong because of its proven formula created by one of Australia's most passionate horsemen, Terry Yates.
Mr Yates grew up on a 40,000 acre cattle property in outback Queensland, Australia, where for as long as he can remember he spent most of his time working with, riding and competing horses.
His love for horses goes beyond the necessity of using them to work cattle.
He has a genuine passion for the animals, particularly breeding them.
He bred his first horse in 1990 and to this day seeing the first foal hit the ground is still a highlight each year.
Mr Yates breeds some of the finest working cow horse bloodlines in Australia to produce top performance horses for sports such as Cutting, Camp drafting and other western disciplines.
Colt Starting Australia was born from necessity as he wanted a platform to market his up and coming colts.
Knowing that starting a horse right is the foundation to its future success and ensuring a wonderful life-long partnership between horse and rider, Mr Yates wanted to give his young horses the best start with top Australian horse trainers and learn from them.
"I know that you only get one chance to start a horse,'' Mr Yates said.
"It can be done in many ways, but once it is set it is very hard to change.
Years in development, today The Colt Starting Australia formula sees trainers and horses achieve the best outcomes in a safe environment while putting on a great show for audiences, teaching them the art of starting a horse.
