FOUR young men have been tragically killed in a single vehicle crash in North Queensland.
The teenagers were found in a semi-submerged vehicle in the river 30km west of Tully about 1pm on Saturday, though police believe the crash on Tully Gorge Road may have happened up to 12 hours earlier.
Three of the friends died at the scene, while the fourth was flown to Townsville Hospital in a critical condition, where he died last night.
The four youths all grew up on the Burdekin and were firm friends.
Braydan Carter-Mathews, 18, who was living in Cairns, and Ryan Beckman, 19, and Shawn Woods, 18, who were both from Ayr could not be saved.
Tom Breen, 19, suffered critical injuries and lost his fight for life in Townsville Hospital overnight.
Burdekin MP Dale Last said said it would take a long time for the community to recover from the tragedy.
"It is just such a tragedy when you lose four young lives in those circumstances, it just rocks a small community like the Burdekin," Mr Last said.
"They had their whole lives in front of them and it will take a long time before the community recovers from the loss of those four young men."
It is understood the friends had met in Tully to celebrate after Ryan got a new job at a banana farm in the region.
A Cairns Forensic Crash Unit spokesman said investigations were ongoing to determine the cause of the crash.
Anyone who saw a grey 2016 Holden Astra in the Tully area on Friday night or early on Saturday morning is being asked to call police.
