There were just over 1200 cattle offered at Emerald on Thursday where the general trend was dearer.

A sharp drop in numbers saw just over 1200 head penned at Emerald on Thursday. As did southern markets, the general trend was dearer with the exception of categories offering light condition or out of specification types.

In the prime section, bullocks over 550kg sold to 238c to average 217c, however the bullocks were light in condition without being young. Heavy steers 500-550kg topped at 200c to average 199c, no heavy heifers to quote, heavy cows over 520kg reached 169c to average 143c, cows 450-520kg made as much as 148c to average 134c, while heavy bulls over 600kg sold to 209c.

The few heavy feeder steers 400-500kg sold to 236c to average 212c, 350-400kg steers topped at 246c to average 233c, 280-350kg steers reached 240c to average 217c, weaner steers 200-280kg made as much as 252c to average 228c, while no light steers under 200kg to quote. Feeder heifers 350-400kg sold to 194c to average 189c, 280-350kg heifers reached 185c to average 150c, weaner heifers 200-280kg made as much as 172c to average 153c, while light heifers under 200kg sold to 140c.

Highlights: The Cox family, Mt Surprise, Alpha offered a draft of Simmental cross steers to 240c for 384kg and $923, while Greg Agius, Clermont had his 231c for 307kg and $710. Neil and Sharon King, Banrock, Willows sold Brahman cross steers for 245c for 369kg and $904, while Craig and Carla McCamley, Selma, Emerald had their No. 8 Brahman steers to 230c for 323kg and $743. Kleier Pastoral, Luxor, Dysart had their 300kg Brahman cross steers to 234c and $702, while the Gray family, Villafield, Alpha sold Santa heifers to 194c for 375kg and $728.
