ABOUT 100 people attended the annual Gulf Cattleman’s Association Testimonial Dinner in Georgetown on Saturday night, where two stalwarts of the beef industry were honoured.
Department of Agriculture and Fisheries Mareeba staffers Joe Rolfe, Principal Extension Officer (Beef) and Bernie English, Senior Extension Officer (Beef), were praised for their contribution to the industry at the dinner.
Attendees enjoyed a formal three course meal and entertainment throughout the evening which was held at the Georgetown Shire Hall.
Many accolades were given to both Joe and Bernie by both local cattle producers and DAF colleagues in recognition of their services to the Northern cattle industry.
Gulf Cattleman’s Association (GCA) president Barry Hughes said the event aimed to bring the regions beef producers and town residents closer together.
He said Joe and Bernie had been invaluable to primary producers in the region over many years.
“Their combined efforts have provided support mechanisms to the Gulf cattle industry through floods, fire and drought events over the last decades,” Mr Hughes said.
