A MAN who collapsed and died suddenly in Ingham early yesterday may have been assaulted in the hours leading up to his death.
An investigation has been launched after Ingham resident Lance Godbold, 66, collapsed at a Conroy Street home.
Police were called about 6.35am and attempted to revive him, but they were unsuccessful and Mr Godbold died at the scene.
Detective Inspector Chris Lawson said subsequent investigations indicated he may have been involved in an altercation with another man early yesterday morning.
That man is described as of dark complexion, about 183cm tall and of solid build.
Police asked for anyone who may have witnessed an assault, or had dash cam footage from around the area of Conroy Street early yesterday to contact them.
Mr Godbold’s death came just two days after two men were stabbed to death in North Queensland.
That incident happened in the usually quiet hamlet of Alva, near Ayr in the early hours of Monday morning.
The stabbing occurred after Candice Locke, 29, attended what police believe was a random Topton Street address, seeking help after suffering injures in an earlier assault.
Dean Webber, 19, answered the door and allowed Ms Locke, who was unknown to him, inside.
Police will allege two other men then arrived at the address shortly after midnight and an altercation occurred, resulting in the two of them receiving critical stab wounds.
Alva Beach father-of-three Corey Christensen, 37, and New South Wales man Tom Davy, 27 died at the scene.
Ms Locke was taken to Townsville Hospital for treatment, where she remains. Earlier today, police were yet to have received a formal statement from her.
Mr Webber was taken in for questioning after the incident and was subsequently released. Police said that Mr Webber did not know the two deceased.
Police have indicated that the stab wounds and subsequent deaths of the two men may be treated as self defence.
Investigations into both the Ingham and Alva deaths are continuing.
