Police are investigating following a serious traffic crash involving a quad bike that occurred in Kelso this morning.
Preliminary information suggests a 35-year-old man was riding the bike along Riverway Drive with a 31-year-old female passenger sitting behind him when the vehicle struck a pig that ran onto the road around 4.50am.
The collision caused the woman to be thrown from the bike.
She sustained critical head injuries as a result of the crash and was transported to Townsville Hospital.
The man was also taken to hospital for observation, however was not seriously injured.
Neither party was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
