Repeat buyers played an integral role in John and Roz Mercer’s 30-year stud breeding celebrations during their annual Kandanga Valley sale at Warravale, Kandanga near Gympie on Saturday.
Demand from these established commercial clients pushed the Charbray average to $5723 for 38 bulls and record a $5526 average for a similar number of Charolais bulls in what selling agents described as a solid sale result.
Typical of their long-term clients were Greg and Shirley Callander, Colston Park, Sarina operating though James Saunders, Landmark, Rockhampton who paid the $14,500 top Charbray money for the generation-bred Kandanga Valley Mario, a 21-month-old powerhouse son of Newcombe’s Huxley.
Mario displayed exceptional depth of flank and muscle expression plus extra fat cover.
The Callanders operated at the top end of the Charbray market securing another excellent generation-bred prospect in Kandanga Valley Malachi, a deep, long bodied son of Kandanga Valley Jerid for $13,000. They bought nine quality young Charbray bulls for a $9000 average.
Randall and Tanya Ziesemer of Beaumont Grazing at Taroom bid the $12,000 top Charolais money for Kandanga Valley Malik, a 22- month-old, polled red factor son of Kandanga Valley Jericho.
Mr Ziesemer said Malik recorded tremendous figures with 12mm for the rib and 12mm for rump area, five per cent IMF and 41cm in the scrotal circumference measurements.
He said Malik was a long, soft bull that was supported by excellent growth figures and will be joined to purebred white Charolais cows.
