NEW technology has improved the durability of seeding equipment.
Unveiled at the Canadian Farm Progress Show, the Morris Quantam air drill features patent-pending, interlocking frame technology, in place of butt joints.
Australian Morris distributor, McIntosh Distribution, director, Cam McIntosh said the drill was set to be a game-changer in terms of durability.
“So far in Australia this season, it has undergone rigorous testing over nearly 10,000 hectares,” he said.
“Due to the dry start of the season this year, it was some of the toughest conditions farmers had ever worked into and it worked for them extremely well.”
Morris Industries, president and chief executive officer, Ben Voss said the air drill would deliver improved durability, productivity and agronomic performance.
“Through innovative design and proprietary manufacturing technology, we have developed an air drill with significantly improved frame strength,” he said.
Mr Morris said in addition to the frame technology, the tubular frames of the Quantum are connected with chrome pins that are 27 per cent larger than those used on previous machines.
Morris, corporate agronomist, Garth Massie said the design and manufacturing improvements would allow farmers to plant more hectares and deliver agronomic benefits.
“At the end of the day, it’s about performance,” he said.
“Poorly established crops never achieve their full yield potential.
“The drills superior design results in the most precise depth control and ground following among independent hoe opener drills.”
Mr Massie said the row unit utilised parallel linkage and had good trash-flow characteristics.
“Eliminating bunching and piles of crop residue collecting on the shank of the opener is important during shallow seeding,” he said.
“These residue bunches interfere with the flow of soil around the opener and filling the furrow before packing, resulting in uncovered seed and spotty germination.”
