There were plenty of shining examples of expert wool, sheep and cattle-growing amid the entertainment at the Landsborough Flock Ewe Show at Muttaburra on Saturday.
The Webb family at Weewondilla were smiling at the end of the day, winning the sheep aggregate trophy, thanks to having the reserve champion pen of flock ewes, the champion production ewe, the champion ewe fleece, and the grand champion fleeces of the show.
They were among those exhibiting 12 pens of flock ewes. There were three pens of trade wethers, won by Dominic and Vicki Burden of Macsland, Longreach.
The Burdens finished with the grand champion pen of flock ewes as well.
Bonnie Downs collected the wool aggregate trophy, and among the other wool prizes was the one for two matched fleeces, which went to the Fysh family at Acacia Downs.
They also showed the best lamb’s fleece, while Jaylan Maynard-Kath had the best pet fleece, and David and Genevieve Counsell of Dunblane, Barcaldine, had the champion wether fleece.
Prizes were shared around in the Rodney Button Memorial wether trial: Summerhill won the wool trophy, Verastan the carcase prize, and Acacia Downs the aggregate.
Lillianfels had the best overall heifer of the show, while the Price family at Potosi showed the best pen of feeder heifers, and Cam and Sharon Tindall had the best pen of replacement heifers.
Young judges were out and about at the show – Jed Morrison added Muttaburra to his list of junior wool judging wins, while Isabelle Kelly was the junior cattle judge.
Three people – John Ahern, Peter Donely, and his wife, Roberta Donely, shared the prize for guessing the weight of the beast.
Guessing either 402 or 404kg, they were all around the correct weight of 403kg.
