Prospective buyers from across the state will have a smorgasbord of top-flight Angus and Senegus genetics to choose from during the annual Australian Topstock Barcaldine Bull Sale being held at the Barcaldine Saleyards on Friday, February 23.
The 160 carefully chosen bulls, consisting of 120 Angus and 40 Red Angus and Red Senegus, that make up the sale draft will be available for inspection from 8am on the day, with the sale action to get underway from 10am.
Sale coordinator James Lilburne, Australian Topstock, said the bulls included in the 2018 sale draft are of uniformly exceptional quality and are “as good if not better than drafts offered in the past at the sale”.
“We never have any issues with the quality of the drafts selected for the sale, and all the bulls are handpicked to suit the scale of the Qld environment to ensure buyers can enjoy peace of mind knowing the bulls they purchase will go out and perform in their respective operations,” James said.
“It’s an enticing sale for Qld beef producers as they’re bidding on the top Angus and Senegus genetics from down south on their doorstep, and it also removes the $400 to $600 in freight costs they’d be looking at to transport their purchases back across the border,” he said.
Returning Victoria-based vendors Mike and Joy Gadd, The Glen Angus, Walwa; Robert and Anthony Close, Kurrawirra Red Angus and Red Senegus, Culla; and Nick and Sara Moyle, Pathfinder Angus, Gazette; will be joined by first-time vendors the Bulle family, Ardrossan Angus, Holbrook, NSW.
The Gadd’s will offer superb 14 Angus and three Angus x Murray Grey’s, while the Bulle’s have chosen 37 top Angus bulls for their inaugural sale draft. Both drafts are JBAS eligible for WA.
The Close’s have drafted 40 stunning Red Angus and Red Senegus for the 2018 catalogue, and the Moyle’s complete the sale draft with their top-notch selection of 63 Angus. These drafts are JBAS eligible for Qld.
“We’re excited to have Ardrossan Angus joining the sale this year. The Bulle family has been selling quite a few bulls into Qld over the years, and it’s great to have them on-board.”
James said climatic conditions in the region leading up to the sale have been “terrible”, and that he’s hoping for rain, “but Australian Topstock and the vendors are committed to the sale through thick and thin”.
“We have no intention of shifting the sale from Barcaldine, it’s in a great central location, and the infrastructure and management team at the saleyards are excellent.”
