Charters Towers Combined Agents yarded a total of 1602 on October 4, cattle consisting of 506 prime cattle and 1096 store cattle.
The prime cattle consisted of 195 bullocks, 24 heifers, 237 cows and 50 bulls and the store cattle yarded consisted of 711 steers, 385 heifers and 4x4 cows and calves.
Prime cattle comprised of good lines of quality and finished bullocks and cows with strong competition from meat works and exporters.
The yarding was drawn from as far west as Mount Isa and as north of Cape York, and local, coastal and surrounding areas such as Georgetown, Greenvale and Hughenden.
Bullocks were quoted 2-4c dearer, Heifers were 4c easier and Cows were 10-15c dearer on last week’s rates.
Prime quotes saw bullocks top at 265c/kg, sold on account of Pedracini Grazing, Scartwater, Charters Towers, that weighed 574kg to return $1524 per head.
Best priced trade heifers were presented on behalf of WH and MA Bojack, Home Hill, which made 244c/kg to weigh 410kg and return $1001 per head.
The top pen of cows were sold by LD Knuth and Co, St Pauls, Charters Towers, for 210c/kg and weighed 518kg to return $1088 per head.
Bulls sold on account of David Jackson and Sons, Myola, Charters Towers, topped at 244c/kg and weighed 715kg to return $1746 per head.
Seventy percent of the store cattle yarded were feeder steers with some good lines of Grey and Red Brahman steers presented from north-west of Mount Isa through to Normanton that met with strong competition from both backgrounders and exporters as well as restockers. A line of spayed Grey and Red Brahman heifers from the Mount Isa region also presented well in lines and sold to dearer rates than last week.
A line of 27 steers sold on account of Doonan Cattle Co, made 352c/kg and weighed 196kg and realised $691 per head.
A good line of 192 Red Brahman steers on behalf of Morr Morr Pastoral Co weighed 266.7kg to average $3.23 and return $862 per head.
A good pen of 15 heifers on account of D and J Buchholz made 279c/kg, weighed 208kg and returned a good average of $582 per head.
A good line of 168 Red and Grey Brahman heifers sold by LHRPHC, Lawn Hill, Mount Isa, weighed 304kg to average 260c/kg and returned $793 per head.
Cows and calves sold on behalf of WH and MA Bojack, Home Hill, returned $1060 per unit.
