A joint initiative between cloud-based accounting and production services companies points to a new strategy which is likely to be increasingly common among agtech companies.
The Farming Team was launched this week. It is accessed through a website which is delivered in partnership by app-based accounting software providers Xero, Figured, crop software Agworld and livestock software AgriWebb, along with grain marketing platform MarketCheck, crop protection distributor TrueCrop, online marketplace Agmarket, and Commonwealth Bank of Australia.
Despite their somewhat overlapping markets, the companies have banded together to provide farm businesses a central point of support for farm businesses to help set up these services and link the apps where appropriate to milk maximum advantage out of data flow.
The Farming Team’s website notes John F Kennedy’s famous saying a rising tide will lift all boats, which explains the way these companies hope to grow their overall market.
“Cloud-based software platforms hold incredible potential, and the benefits are magnified through collaboration to create simple and powerful offerings for our farmers,” Agriwebb chief executive Kevin Baum said.
The Farming Team will provide ongoing support, to assist producers to grow a system of interlinked services.
The Farming Team will also connect farmers with professional service providers like business advisory, agronomy and agri-banking services.
“We’re keen to provide support and education to farmers on the best ways to harness cloud software and modern technology,” Xero’s Rob Stone said.
