Cloncurry veterinary clinic provides services for isolated animals

Small rural towns with no veterinary services such as Julia Creek and Richmond will have the chance to have their furry friends seen to, when the Cloncurry based clinic visits on January 18.

The veterinary group conducts a satellite clinic in Julia Creek and Richmond once a month, to service small animals in town and surrounding areas.

North Australian Veterinary Group senior vet, Trevor Smith, said the purpose of the trip was to assist pet owners with smaller issues, without them paying the expensive mileage. 

“We would rather try and push small jobs together and allow our customers to save on mileage, while still providing our service,” Mr Smith said.

“We will be conducting consultations in town in the morning, which we will exercise vaccinations, microchipping and look at simple medical cases. Any animals that need more complicated consultations like surgery, bloods or x-rays have to come into the clinic in Cloncurry.

“In the afternoon we will travel to stations and conduct small jobs like: pregnancy testing horses, horse dental, pregnancy testing small numbers of cattle, semen testing bulls and castrating horses.”

The North Australian Veterinary Group took over the clinic in Cloncurry 18 months ago and continued on the previous owners travelling legacy.

“We have maintained the connection with our customers in Julia Creek and Richmond every month and we have also added a few more services,” Mr Smith said.

“This is attracting a consistent number of patients so it is certainly worth it for us and our patients.

“Out here we always service a large area and we are happy to do it.”
