THE developer of a major solar farm in Far North Queensland has appointed UGL to construct the first phase of the $300 million project, 270km northwest of Townsville.
The appointment of UGL, a leading provider of end-to-end outsourced engineering, asset management and maintenance services across core sectors of rail, transport and technology systems, power, resources, water and defence, completes Genex Power’s project delivery team.
Genex is building a renewable energy hub on the site of the former Kidston Gold Mine. It will feature a 150 megawatt solar scheme, industrial scale pump storage hydro scheme and 185km transmission line.
UGL will look after the engineering, procurement and design and operation and maintenance for the first 50MW phase of the project.
It was one of seven shortlisted tenderers.
UGL has recently commissioned the 4MW Darwin International Airport solar farm, which was designed and constructed by UGL with specialist solar PV consultants Coronium, and is involved in two projects currently under construction near Canberra, a 15MW solar fixed farm and a 2.3MW solar tracking farm, as well as the solar and “balance of plant” packages for the ARENA funded Coober Pedy hybrid project.
Genex Power managing director Michael Addison said the interest shown by UGL along with all tenderers in the process demonstrated the unique quality of the project.
