Two solar projects in Hughenden have advanced to the full application stage of an initiative from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency.
The Kennedy Energy Park and Hughenden Sun Farm projects were two of 22 projects announced by ARENA to move to the Large-Scale Solar Photovoltaics - Competitive Round, as part of the Advancing Renewables Programme (ARP).
Member for Mount Isa Rob Katter said Hughenden businesses and industry are set to benefit greatly from the solar projects.
“This is a significant step in making rural towns such as Hughenden more resilient,” Mr Katter said.
“These solar projects will reduce energy costs for business and industry, and also serve as a more reliable energy source in a part of the state where supply is impacted regularly by power outages.”
Ten of the 22 short-listed projects were in Queensland, highlighting the state’s suitability to solar energy.
